AYP Results for Schools with 4-day Week

One argument that school officials have used to support moving to a 4-day week is that others who have a 4-day week are meeting AYP. Unfortunately, this appears to be based on old information. According to PED data, 14 of the 25 schools with 4-day weeks have gone from meeting AYP to NOT meeting AYP. Did the 4-day week contribute to this decline in performance...who knows? Is it the direction I want to see Cloudcroft schools go...no.

Comparison of AYP

  1. Sorry, Margo! I tried to re-word the last paragraph of my "4-Day/AYP Rant" and wound up ZAPPING it instead.
    It went something like this:

I'd LIKE to say it three more times because I can't emphasize it enough! It's a statistic that has been largely overlooked. Yet, it indicates that 4-day schools can and DO succeed. I believe Cloudcroft will succeed. In my opinion, we have excellent administrators, staff, and teachers. We have GREAT STUDENTS and WONDERFUL, SUPPORTIVE FAMILIES. There will be many challenges and changes next year. My own teaching assignment might be one of them. While my heart is in FIRST GRADE, my soul is in CLOUDCROFT. I'll work hard to do my best with a new grade level, and I know the community will work hard to do its best with a new calendar. I believe the School Board made a correct decision. I also believe a re-call election (as suggested by some) would be divisive, destructive, and ultimately VERY COSTLY. I hope the people behind such an effort will reconsider and INSTEAD ... RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARD SEATS IN THE NEXT ELECTION.

  2. Sorry. The date in my first paragraph should be 2014...not 2114. I only proofread my entry two or three times ... at my age it apparently requires more readings to catch a one hundred year mistake. I will now attempt to CORRECTLY copy my complete comment at a more prominent location of your web site. Maybe these three incoherent entries will then be overlooked. Margo: feel free to delete them with your webmaster magic.

  3. Mr. D...I tried to work my webmaster magic, but I didn't notice that the final corrected comment about AYP was under a different heading, so it looks like I zapped the initial comment that showed up here.
Anyone who wants to read the whole thing can see the corrected version under the "school board approves 4-day week" post.
Feel free to post it again here...I can't move content to different headings or alter a comment in any way...it's either delete it or leave it as is.

  4. Mr. D
It's apparent that you are very much in favor of the 4-day week. According to what I have heard in public meetings, this is true of the vast majority of the teachers. My question is why.

  5. I wonder why also. Do they need a rest like Lisa Morales stated 3 times in the last special called meeting on June 20th I believe?

I keep thinking the No Child Left Behind is the stress and frustration the teachers are experiencing.

Our family went from 2 homes and a thriving business in MI, came to NM thinking we were going to semi retire, the bottom falls out of the housing market and we ate hot dogs for 2 years (a nutritional disaster). Our family budget cuts were very hard but as a family we pulled closer together and looked for new avenues, communication is the key and keeping yourself in check. Every one has different ideas but respect for one another, even when you don't agree, is important.

Respect for the person, not what they said or did, perhaps. We all have stuff in our lives, our perspectives are different.

Enough I guess. I can get to "Preaching"
