Here is the agenda for the meeting, which starts at 4 p.m. My understanding from the last public meeting is this meeting will include the consultant and the various committee members to teach them how to interview candidates.
They also note on the agenda that they will be going into executive session, which is supposed to deal with limited personnel matters. My understanding from reading the news and the Attorney General's Open Meetings Act Compliance Guide (specifically page 23, example 43), the executive session is only valid if discussing the specific qualifications of a specific candidate. I'm hoping to get some clarification of how they are justifying executive session at this stage, since the last meeting made it sound like they didn't have any specific candidates yet and were not going to be interviewing until April.

But they DO have specific applicants, as the deadline to apply was Monday. And the agenda item for the executive session states "screening of applicants." Therefore, as in example 43, it is legal. No further clarification required. The stuff in the story you posted is not the same situation. The board in that story was not screening applicants, it was doing what the CMS Board has already done, in recent open meetings.
ReplyDeleteYes, they do have applicants, but No, they have not already come up with their criteria by which to screen those applicants (at least not in a public meeting that I have seen). They have talked about coming up with criteria at recent meetings. They have asked Ms. Welch and Ms. Davis to come up with lists. They have asked board members to come up with lists. But they have never compiled the list or determined in a public forum what those important things are. Since this is the first public workshop for the teacher/administrator committee and the community committee, I would hope that those folks have a say in what the criteria are as well. I have asked for and received some clarification...I'm just waiting for the person who provided it to give me permission to post it.
