Mark Alvord to be on School Board

I'll update this post as soon as the podcast is ready, since I wasn't at the meeting last night.

The school board considered at least 3 candidates to fill the position vacated by Doug Porch. Those candidates were Ed Wooten, Dulaney Barrett and Mark Alvord. The board selected Mark Alvord to fill the vacant slot.

  1. Doesnt he have a lawsuit against the schools? How can he be on the board if he's suing them?

  2. Margo, did the meeting get recorded? I want to listen and be sure my memory is serving me correctly......"I like Mark Alvord." Is that a good reason to appoint a Board member? What did they "like" about him? There was NO discussion about any of the candidates. There were no letters of intent turned in to the board. A panel of puppets could do as well! If I were the new superintendent, I would be concerned about my decision to move to Cloudcroft School District after witnessing (on May 15) our NONprofessional and NONthinking board members.
And what about this "lawsuit." Margo, can you use your great investigating abilities and discover if the Alvords have a suit against the school? If so, is it legal for him to sue himself? OR maybe that's why the Board "likes" Mark Alvord. If there is a suit, he may have to drop it.....

  3. I spoke to Superintendent Hancock yesterday. He said he did not know of any lawsuit that had been filed by Mark Alvord, so I believe that must be a false rumor, as the Superintendent would know about it.

I have posted the podcast for the May 15 meeting, so you should be able to find it at http://cmsbears.podbean.com or on iTunes.

  4. In reply to anonymous, To back up Ms. Whitt's reply, I spoke to Mr. Alvord personally and was assured that there is no law suit nor has there ever been. As far as the letter of intent, Mr. Alvord filed and turned his in on the morning it was requested. There were 3 Candidates and as far as discussion I am sure that those involved in the selection process must have discussed them.

I have known Mr. Alvord for a number of years and have always found him to be for the Children, not just his own, but for all the Children in our School District. His intergrity is above reproach. Mr. Alvord and I do not always agree on everything, however: We are always able to discuss what we disagree on.

Our School system is broken, maybe with the new Superintendant and some new "blood" on the Board we can begin to fix it.

I'm quite sure if you have any questions or concerns Mr. Alvord would be more than willing to discuss them with you face to face or even by phone. I am sure he will be glad to give you his number.

I for one am very glad to have Mr. Alvord on the board. I think he is there for all the right reasons, OUR CHILDREN!!
