Too bad the school blocks Facebook, as it sometimes has very useful content! Thanks for the heads up Arlan.

Perhaps someone could help me understand why there is even a need for an exclusive position of "Superintendent" in such an extremely tiny, rural school in what I believe is the 2nd or so poorest State in the Union? Is anyone thinking outside the box, especially in this economy, where 2 positions could be combined into one, such as a qualified H.S. Principal/Superintendent with a slightly higher salary? And, perhaps another position already in existence, such as Special Ed Coordinator(since this position seems to be a necessity for some reason)/Assistant H.S. Principal with a bit of a Salary raise?
ReplyDeleteSeems this would save an incredible amount of money, especially considering the exhorbitant salaries and benefits paid to the Cloudcroft School "Superintendents, 'Assisants', etc." in the past and present that have just needlessly hemorrhaged our educational/academic funds for years.
There does seem to be evidence the quality of the programs/education/'some' teaching staff and support staff have declined (we've had kids in school up here since year 2000) which is very discouraging. And I'm not convinced the H.S. Counselor,(lovely person that she is and I'm sure wonderfully qualified in other areas) is up to speed at all as far as sound "academic" guidance. This is also very disturbing as it appears we as parents are now having to do all the foot work and research to determine the in's and out's of when our child will need to do what in order to efficiently and correctly prepare for furthering her education. Handing us the Student H.S. handbook pointing out what "basic requirements" are for graduation is an alarming sign that something really needs to be done, yesterday, to prevent the costly mistakes our student is already suffering as well as those that have recently gone before and discoverd when it was too late. After pushing really hard, we were eventually handed a stack of papers that we've barely begun to try and sift through and can barely tell up from down as to how to interpret-sigh. Really thought this was what the 'professionals' were paid to do.
Of course we do wish there were more we could do to jump in and try to help solve all these issues as we were able in the past, but we're still in sheer survival mode, needing to constantly work just to keep our heads above water for now. So, hopefully at least posting on this blog from time to time may help just a little bit and give someone else a chance to be our voice, if in agreement.
Thanks,
Holly
Sounds like a good idea
